What is an ECA?

An ECA is an Extra Curricular Activity, which means it is something that falls outside the scope of our regular academic curriculum offering.

They provide pupils with opportunities to explore interests, develop new skills, and socialise with peers with like-minded interests.

This guidance has been created to share with you all the information you need with regards to our ECA offering at Belmont Grosvenor School for the winter term of the academic year 2026/27.

Who are ECAs for?

Our ECA offering starts from Reception age and goes through to Year 6. We have a progressive approach where the older the children get, the more are available to
them. Our ECA timetable is split into Pre-Prep (Reception to Year 2), and Prep (Years 3-6).

What ECAs do we offer at BGS?

Within this guidance, you will see information for every ECA that we offer for our pupils. They range from sport to music, problem solving to strategy games, and much more. Please look through this later in the document.

When do ECAs take place?

Our ECAs take place either before school, at morning break, at lunch break, or after school.

The timings for each ECA depends on the year group and activity on offer.

Where do take place?

Currently, all our take place on the school premises, in different locations (both inside and outside) across the site.

How many is too many?

Whereas we encourage our pupils to attend our it is
important that they do not become overwhelmed with an overly busy timetable. It is also important that children get some free time during their break and lunch times. It is best to find a balance that works for your child, and we encourage those with older children to make these decisions together.

Who leads the ECAs?

The majority of are led by BGS teachers and teaching
assistants. Some of our are led by external providers, which is made clear later in this guidance. All external providers are DBS checked, and they have been chosen due to the high-quality experiences they provide.

What is the cost?

This is dependent on the ECA; many of them are free of charge.

However, for the external providers, Baking Club and Cross Stitch, there is a charge. This information is clearly mentioned on the ECA information below.

What is a “notice period”?

Some of our require a notice period to stop attending them.
Each ECA will fall into one of the three categories below, which is
identified on the specific ECA activity.

 1 No Notice Period – Children who sign up are committing to sign up for the full term and should attend each session. At the end of the term, if the ECA is continuing into the next term, they will have to sign up again if they want to continue.

2. One Term’s Notice Required These ECAs run all year round. Children who are already in these ECAs will continue to be added to the registers each term. If a child wants to stop attending, parents must inform the school in writing which would begin the start of the one terms notice.

3. Decided by External Provider For these ECAs, once children are signed up, your details are passed directly to the external provider who will then take over communication with you. In most cases, you can decide towards the end of the term if you want to continue for the next term.

What dates do they run from?

ECAs will start on Monday 8th September and run for 11 (due to the half week before half term, those on a Thursday or Friday will run for 10 weeks) weeks (half term week exclusive), ending on Friday 28th November.
