Pupils at BGS begin learning a language from the age of three and continue until they leave at the end of Year 6. Children are taught French in various different ways, starting with games, songs and stories at the lower end of school until, by the end of Year 6, all pupils have been exposed to past, present and future verb tenses.
They will also have been introduced to a range of topics such as fashion, sports and hobbies as well as food and drink.
Pupils are given the opportunity to learn some Spanish, German and Italian on rotation at weekly modern foreign languages club. Children in Year 6 have taster sessions in those three European languages ahead of their transition to secondary school.
While the younger children are taught in their classrooms by our specialist languages teacher once a week, children from Year 2 to Year 6 visit our specialist languages classroom for their lessons.
