Clubs and activities
Our wide ranging Prep and Pre-Prep clubs and activities programme may be led by our own teachers or outside providers and they support the curriculum and give children the opportunity to learn a new skill or develop their interests. We encourage creativity, independence and perseverance through the broad extra-curriculum programme that is on offer.
Clubs run throughout the day, either before, during or after school. Some start at 8am and others may run up until 5pm depending on the age range of the children. As part of transition, there are occasions where Year 2 children will be invited to join in with some Prep clubs as the year progresses and this is a fantastic chance for children in Pre-Prep to see what life will be like when they move into Year 3.
Parents are provided with the extra-curricular information at the beginning of each term. They are able to sign up to different clubs by contacting their child’s form teacher who will be able to direct children to clubs at the various points in the school day.

Visits and trips
Children at BGS enjoy a varied and rich curriculum and as a result we are proud to explore a wide range of extra-curricular trips and visits. These include day trips to museums, places of worship, National Trust venues and areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Pupils also enjoy regular trips to the theatre or take part in performing arts workshops. We ensure each year group has multiple opportunities to learn outside of the school grounds.
Enrichment days are an integral part of our school community. The children take part in exciting team building activities such as rock climbing and even walking the Yorkshire Three Peaks. These take place termly.
Pupils enjoy residential stays at outdoor education centres including Bewerley Park, Kingswood and Live for Today. We have even had sleepovers in school and in tents on the Head’s Lawn!
Our Prep ski trip is a highlight of the BGS calendar
Exam booster group
Children at BGS move on at the end of Year 6 to a wide variety of schools in the area and we pride ourselves on preparing them for entrance into selective independent and maintained schools.
Our experienced staff members carefully and sensitively work with pupils to build confidence in exam skills, provide opportunities to answer entrance exam style questions and increase familiarity with the entrance requirements of individual schools.
In addition to learning about time management, reading and skim reading skills, and the reading of, and listening to instructions, the group looks at verbal and non-verbal reasoning, comprehensions, essay planning and writing, as well as interview techniques.
We have a variety of previous exam questions from a wide selection of schools which give children the opportunity to practise their exam techniques on entrance level material.
Children feel confident and prepared to face their entrance exams after working closely with teachers in our exam booster group.
