Academic
Information Communication Technology (ICT) is a real strength at Belmont Grosvenor School.
Whether children are working in the ICT suite, or in one of the satellite suites, they have monitored access to the internet as well as all the latest educational software.
With network points in every classroom and tablets available, specialist teachers work with children from Year 3 upwards providing opportunities for photography and film editing as well as programming in computer science.
Our fully-equipped science lab is a great asset to the school and really helps bring science alive through exciting experiments and investigations, while our dedicated music room is packed to the rafters with a wide range of instruments to cover most musical tastes. Four additional rooms are used for instrumental lessons by our team of visiting musical staff.
Our converted hayloft houses the busy Art and Design Technology Studio. This space inspires creativity and facilities allow children to work in two and three-dimensions using a variety of media and techniques. One of our satellite ICT suites is located here for the children to use in relation to their art and design work.
Outdoor
Set in beautiful grounds on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, our outdoor setting is second to none.
All our children, from the youngest in nursery to our oldest in Year 6, are encouraged to make the most of our outdoor space both at play times and in lessons.
Teachers at BGS take their classes outside whenever possible and we have a vast array of resources to ensure lessons are educational as well as enjoyable.
Our dedicated Forest School area is popular with our pre-prep children who enjoy regular sessions as part of the curriculum. Housed under a giant tarpaulin in a sheltered wooded area, the Forest School area includes log seating, a campfire area and willow-weave fencing.
Our extensive grounds are fabulous playing fields for our children – whether they are climbing in our Magic Tree, running on the Head’s Lawn or exploring the woodland, there is always something new to discover.
An outside classroom, adventure trail, treehouse, and open air amphitheatre add to our inspirational outdoor facilities.
Sports
The jewel in the crown at Belmont Grosvenor is our 20m indoor heated swimming pool. With separate boys and girls changing rooms, an airy reception area and seating around the poolside, this is an extremely well-used, and an incredibly popular facility at school with lessons in the curriculum for all children from the age of three.
Our Greenwood Gym is fully-equipped with both portable apparatus, as well as fixed ropes and bars.
Our site is the location for a specially-designed orienteering course, and is perfect for cross-country running.
The netball courts and flatter areas of the grounds allow for some sport to take place at main school while our tennis courts, football and rugby pitches are just minutes away in the centre of Birstwith and complete the sporting picture at Belmont Grosvenor.
Performing arts
The performing arts department at Belmont Grosvenor provides a nurturing environment and numerous opportunities for pupils to take part in a range of music and drama performances. Our music room is well-stocked with keyboards, a wide range of percussion and Gamelan instruments. Additional rooms provide spaces for individual and group lessons and activities, each with a piano and two with drum kits.
Drama lessons take place in the prop-filled drama room and the open air amphitheatre is well-used. Performances are staged in the Greenwood Gym with its apron stage, lighting and sound system, and backstage area to complete the children’s theatre experience.
Dining at BGS
Here at BGS we know just how important food is, and the right food at that! Our school lunches are prepared on site by our very own chef, Shaun, with an emphasis on offering a wholesome and balanced diet with healthy food served daily. We source our ingredients locally wherever possible.
The menu for the week ahead is sent out with Friday’s Blazer Post and features, as well as hearty British staples like steak pie or roast dinner with all the trimmings, diverse international cuisines including pulled pork and jackfruit or oriental noodles. We encourage our children to be a little adventurous with their food, to try something new and relish new flavours.
Alternative dietary requirements are all catered for with vegetarian and vegan options and a salad bar is offered daily. And as well as wholesome traditional puddings, there is always a fruit or yoghurt alternative on offer.
